Getting to Campus by Foot

Research shows that exercise leads to a better attention span.  Boost your GPA by walking or hiking your way to class!

Before you hop in your car each day, try comparing the time it takes to walk to campus versus driving and finding a parking spot. Walking times from several neighborhoods were measured by a group of UMD Students in a 2009 Anthropology class.

The Bluestone business district is connected by a beautiful path from Woodland Avenue to UMD for exclusive use by pedestrians and bicyclists.

Hiking

Duluth boasts 81 miles of hiking trails within city limits, the Lakewalk, which begins in Canal Park and ends in the Lakeside neighborhood, and the ever-expanding Superior Hiking Trail.  Students frequently use the Chester Park trails to access campus.  Explore more hiking trails around Duluth.
